How anyone can see how BB has acted over the past year, how badly his UNC roll-out has gone (not to mention the Pats' lack of success after Brady left) and think, "yeah, I want some of that!"
Yes, Belichick can do worse. The Giants can do much better.
Belichick is old, hasn’t won in years, and might be the meat puppet of a 24 year old sociopath. No thanks.
Belichick is old. Hasn't won in years. Can't argue with that. I don't think those two facts are necessarily disqualifying.... I site the return of an old HC, that had not won in years, who many had thought the game had passed by... Dick Vermeil.
Vermeil spent 15 years away from the NFL until he returned in 1997 with the Rams, who had not achieved a winning season or playoff berth since 1989. Vermeil again ended these droughts during the 1999 season, also obtaining the Rams' first winning season in St. Louis. The season culminated with the Rams winning Super Bowl XXXIV, which was their first Super Bowl victory, their first championship since 1951, and their only NFL title in St. Louis.
Bill was bad at drafting and so far has been horrible without Brady. Yes he was/is likely one of the best coaches of all time, but his time is over. He has not elevated UNC and was terrible the last few years in New England.
and ignoring the treasure trove of more recent red flags. Same goes for Gruden and similar coaches bringing too many personal warts into their professional world.

I know people stopped paying attention after about week 3, but UNC the last 3 weeks looks like a completely different football team. Everyone wanted to throw dirt on Belichick’s career but if he has patience and UNC has patience I still think it could work. If they are patient enough to see this through through year 3 minimum I think by year 3 they will be a top 25 team consistently
I don't know what Belichick has left as a coach, let alone
how much his personal life is getting in the way of things. But Mook's point is a good one - judging things based on UNC's early season results is starting to look premature. A year from now, after more time with the team and another recruiting class will give a much better picture of how effective a coach he still is.

They just beat a Syracuse team that was on their 3rd string QB, a true freshman that is attending Syracuse on a lacrosse scholarship, not football. They’ve also lost to Cal in that vaunted 3 game stretch you speak of.
Playing better? Sure, I guess. But there was only one way to go. Couldn’t have possibly gotten any worse
Hire Dorsey and have BB be the coach. It will be a 3 year window for him to elevate the team - he's 74. Groom someone behind him for a good handoff. He will bring discipline where its lacking. I guarantee Belicheck wont forget that McCaffrey is the one guy to cover on a 49ers team.

You're using 1997 Dick Vermeil as the reference point...
it's so bad right now, and the franchise is such a colossal disaster, that even though they shouldn't come within a country mile of Belicheck and his baggage, he might be one of the few people who could actually save us.
that said, if you're him, would you want to work for John Mara?
if you sign up for Belichick, you are signing up for Lombardi, Steve Belichick, Jordon Hudson, ect. . . Maybe we can even get Matt Patricia and Joe Judge to be our co-offensive coordinators.
He hasn't had success anywhere since Brady left. He's got a clown show personal life that he can't keep off the field. What pro or major college team could possibly want him now?

Belichick unchecked is a scary thought.
It would be worth it to get McDaniels as OC.
How many years ago did you stop following football?
Right now with all of the warts you have all laid out emphatically...
- He is a better Head Coach than all the HC's we have hired since Tom Coughlin
- Our defense with the same personnel we have today would be far better than the shit we roll out weekly
- His organizational skills and game day management are far superior
I'm not even campaigning for Belichick. But you guys amuse me. It was a worthwhile thread just to see the arrogance displayed.

It is not arrogance. Being better than a pile of varying degrees of hot garbage is not saying much. There have been a number of puzzling moves at UNC and I want nothing with his insular group of coaches or the Lombardi family.

Only way I see that working is if he committed to 2 years as HC to right the ship a bit and convinced Flores to come along as DC as his successor. Now that would be somewhat exciting.
the only name that has been brought up over the years as much as Belichick was Bill Cowher. It's not happening, and if it does you know that you're Sundays for the next year or two will be freed up.
And, Cowher didn't happen because he wanted to run the show
BB won't likely want anything less either, not to mention he's acting like a washed up and whipped nutjob. Show us you care about the UNC job you accepted ...
I still think the dude can coach defensively and would probably hire a good OC.
That said, the sideshow isn’t worth it.
Hey, I'm 100% convinced if BB is in a situation to coach a franchise QB, he's a legit threat to win a SB. But the sideshow - as you say - is too insane. Although if anyone could skirt it with the media, it's "We're on to Cincinnati BB..."
Don't listen to Homer. He's a lunatic. The Giants interest in Bill Belichick ended years ago when they went to talk to him about the job and he recommended Joe Judge.

They were getting smacked by the same level of teams early in the year. I was at the TCU-UNC game. I’ve watched them recently. Might as well be two totally different teams. They easily could have 2 more wins, they fumbled at the 1 yard line against cal going in for the win and they came up a half yard short of beating Virginia.
I dont know if either side will be patient enough but if they are he will have them in the top 25 consistently, I dont think more than that but the dirt thrown on BB the first few weeks looks a little silly right now

At least people have stopped suggesting bill cowher as coach. I view that as progress

McDaniels and Patricia aren't likely to come here - are we stuck with Mike Lombardi's kid as an OC and his son Steve as DC?
Yeah - no thank you at all.
He is also looking to bring in a well known TE to the mix.
Belichick assembling Giants team, TE highly considered - ( New Window )
Dating a hooker 50 years younger
Yea I can definitely see this being the move that reverses a decade plus long funk
I’ve been saying for over a year this is so dumb Mara is almost guaranteed to do it

Belichick unchecked is a scary thought.
I have a few coaching options I am interested in (veteran HC's) but I am warming up to this:
President & GM- Tony Pastoors
HC- Chris Shula
Asst. HC/OC- Mike Lafleur
DC- Aubrey Pleasant
Starting to like this idea a lot!
John and Eric have a better chance to coach the team next year than Belichick does.
So you are saying as an gets you all hot and bothered

That’s what I’m afraid of.
The Giants might.
He seems like he has no self-awareness.
Not just no, but hell no. He fucked up the Patriots, ran Brady out of town and now can't coach a college program.
Why the hell would the Giants want him.
That said, the sideshow isn’t worth it.
