NFT: Freddie King -- Boogie Funk

M.S. : 11/7/2025 9:09 am
When I was growing up in the 1960s, a next-door neighbor introduced me to the music of Freddie King. I was never really "into" the Blues (save for Howlin' Wolf) but listening to this 2-minute YouTube video (especially toward the end) reminds me of what he said about this guy so many years ago: Freddie King doesn't just play the guitar. He devours it.

Freddie King is the best!

So many guitarists built their careers by copying his style. The John Mayall “Beano” album is full of Freddie King licks lifted by Clapton — and not just in his version of King’s “Hideaway.”

Thanks for sharing!
I love his style on this one-

He’s a hell of a showman!

That was awesome! Can definitely see/hear Clapton going to school on this guy!!!

Incidentally, hard to believe Freddie King isn’t using a pick — but there he is just with his fingersI Wow. Reminds me of Howlin’ Wolf’s sideman Hubert Sumlin.

All fingers with a thumb pick!
In my humble opinion

Freddie is better than both Albert and B.B.

Was amazing. His guitar is the sound of Chicago electric blues guitar.
Speaking of Chicago, I usually chalk that up as a win for the Giants, but this is a new Bears team… and we’re the hapless Giants led by a dolt as defensive coordinator and a head coach coasting out his last games on fumes.
Time to listen to more blues!

I can agree to this just because I dig Freddie, but they’re all very different. I thought I was over BB, but then I listened to his Easy Listening Blues album and I was hooked again. And, the Albert Stax albums are really great.

I cut my teeth on that record; possibly my favorite LP of all-time. Big fan of the King label, by the way.
