Colts Reportedly “Checked In” on Deonte Banks

mac attack : 11/7/2025 10:09 am
"ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that the Indianapolis Colts, before engineering the huge blockbuster trade with the New York Jets for cornerback Sauce Gardner, “checked in” with the Giants regarding Deonte Banks."

Not trading this massive bust is a firable offense IMO.

Absolutely inexcusable.

Could be we will give you a 7 for Banks and a 6
So not trading a guy no one wants

Is a fireable offense? Did I miss Schoen turning down a trade offer?
No doubt
Spider43 : 11/7/2025 10:15 am : link
They're thinking of rehabbing him like DJ, once away from our cesspool of coaches.
you shouldn't make your conclusion
Giantsfan79 : 11/7/2025 10:18 am : link
without knowing what the Colts offered. Would you have been willing to taking a super low ball offer just to get rid of Banks?
I thought Jerome Henderson

Hurt his feelings.
arguably
fkap : 11/7/2025 10:22 am : link
getting rid of the guaranteed contract might be worth getting nothing in return, but you really don't save much. He's a bust, but as a backup, he does hold some value.
Jerome Henderson
pastrami : 11/7/2025 10:23 am : link
Our previous DB coach now the DB coach on the Colts - interesting that he would want to trade for Banks, even if the offer was just for peanuts.
LOL - we don't know anything so how can it be a "fireable offense"
PatersonPlank : 11/7/2025 10:27 am : link
Did they actually offer anything or was it just checking?
What did they offer if they did?
Did this actually happen at all?

You make it sound like Schoen for a fact turned down a 2nd rd draft choice or something.

He did good as a kick returner if I recall correctly only thing I’d have him on the field for
Then they woke up, realized he sucks, and got Sauce

That's a rhetorical question, right?
How is it firable
pjcas18 : 11/7/2025 10:47 am : link
without knowing any details?

How do you know the Colts didn't check in, in case they couldn't land Sauce?

The Colts checked in on Banks
JoeyBigBlue : 11/7/2025 10:55 am : link
but settled for Gardner.😂😂😂😂

Make it make sense
That's how you view it?
pjcas18 : 11/7/2025 11:02 am : link
"settled" for Gardner? Not that they checked in to see what the cost would be for Banks to have options should they decide the 2 1sts for Gardner is too much?

Sounds more plausible to me. but go in with your "make it make sense" histrionics.

It was their fall back option

Schoen was protecting his next job
Wondo123 : 11/7/2025 11:06 am : link
Banks is so awful, he would be screwing the Colts with any trade. And Schoen needs a job after the season.
Checking in
blueblood : 11/7/2025 11:07 am : link
does NOT mean they actually wanted him...

For a lot of people here, what Joe Schoen has for breakfast is a firable offense.
people are really dense when it comes to trade value
LittleBlue : 11/7/2025 11:16 am : link
I've explained this a lot before - there is free agency and a salary cap in the NFL.

If a player, no matter how big a superstar, tests the market and signs for the market-clearing price, the team that just signed him can trade him for NOTHING. Because any other team could have just paid him $1 more prior to signing and won his services. People don't want to understand that you could have prime Jerry Rice on your team today, and if you were on the hook to pay him $100M per year for the next 4 years he would be completely worthless as a trade asset.

If a player is worth less (much less) than his contract, he is worth NEGATIVE value. He is not tradeable except as part of a package where you give other more valuable assets and receive less valuable assets.
I would have let him go...
Giantsince80 : 11/7/2025 11:29 am : link
for an 8th round pick.
Glue Factory would give a higher price

Its actually rat Craig Carton who came up with the most interesting theory, that there's basically an embargo of moves by the owners preparing for a big change... Well, at least good for my copium.

He did OK returning the ball a couple times, but when the other returner fielded the kick Banks showed less than zero interest in throwing a block for his teammate
Stupid OP
Mike from Ohio : 11/7/2025 12:46 pm : link
The Colts may have called Schoen while they were negotiating for Gardner and asked about Banks, and Schoen said "We're open to letting him go." The Colts then get a call back from the Jets saying "Sure, we'll trade you Gardner for what we talked about." Colts then tell Schoen nevermind.

In your mind, Schoen should be fired for not finalizing that deal?
In addition to what others said already...

we are going to believe another news article? Not only that, but from SI of all places? They are to sports like Rolling Stone and MTV are to music.

I dont believe anything that I read there.

Hey Mac Attack..be careful. Fake news here is a bannable offense.

With his past criticism of Banks, why would he want him? BBI usually goes all in on these reports. Most of them are BS.

yes and no. Sure he sucks now, but giving him away for pennies before the new defensive coordinator gets a change to work with him may not be the best move either
One trade I thought was possible
Jay on the Island : 11/7/2025 6:54 pm : link
was Banks for Adonai Mitchell. If that was a possibility and the Giants passed then Schoen is dumber than I thought.
I would like the Mods to suspend
section125 : 11/7/2025 7:10 pm : link
anybody that says that something is a fireable offense - especially something based on a rumor.

Does it seem plausible that Banks and Gardner would be objects of the same team's desire. Hey, if we can't get Deontae Banks, we'll get Sauce Gardner...does that make sense?

Like saying, if a team asks about Trent Grisham and is rejected, they turn around and acquire Aaron Judge.
