NFT: YouTube TV vs Hulu TV

steve in ky : 11/7/2025 7:53 pm
I’m finally going to drop Direct TV and go 100% streaming. For similar pricing Hulu comes with all its own programming and library, Disney+, and ESPN, what makes YouTube an option so many prefer when Hulu seems to offer much more content, what am I missing? Thanks
Sunday Ticket probably

.
If I remember correctly Hulu has somewhat the same content
PatersonPlank : 11/7/2025 8:10 pm : link
but is more expensive and charges for anything over 2 screens at once (so only two people can be watching). Once you add in the other addons and the additional screen upgrade it used to come to a lot more. Also, then there is Sunday Ticket.

There are content differences, so you need to drill in and make sure you are getting what you want.
False choice

Keep Direct TV and call retention and get a $50 a month discount.

Beats anything streaming has to offer.
YouTube TV had a feature no one else had:

Unlimited cloud DVR. The recordings aren't kept forever, only 9 months I think, but you can record anything and everything. I don't know whether that is still a unique feature.

YTTV has a pretty good interface and a lot of nice features but it's still basically similar to cable. That is becoming a somewhat dated approach.

I noticed that Amazon Prime now has a Live TV section. I think that Amazon and other providers are going to get into the live-TV business to compete with YTTV. I hope that works to the benefit of consumers. But somehow we always seem to get sort of screwed, don't we?

Hulus interface is horrible

once the ABC situation is resolved, YTTV is the clear choice.

I switched from Hulu to Yourube TV and was never happier until the recent local sports and Disney failed negotiations. I’m now ready to back to Verizon.

It will get fixed, it has too. They depend on each other too much
I have had both

I like the idea of all of Hulu’s original programming plus just the large library of movies and television series. That’s a lot to give up for YouTube just having a better interface. How hard/bad can Hulu’s be to give all that up for close to the same price?

well since there is no contract and all you need to do is download an app, why don't you just try both and see which one you like better?
I had Hulu for a long time then switched

to YouTube when Sunday Ticket moved over. YouTube’s interface, technology and overall UX are so much better than Hulu.

I probably should, I always hate the hassle of canceling theses types of things though. I’ll probably go with Hulu since it gives you a lot more programming and then see. If I like it keep it or if I hate the interface I’ll try and cancel and then try YouTube.
Cancelling is easy, its in the app
BH28 : 11/7/2025 9:50 pm : link
Not like the cable company where you have to call and go through 10 people before they let you cancel.
Have also had both
oghwga : 11/7/2025 10:11 pm : link
Prefer Hulu TV. Actually like the interface better and they have a great and deep library. I have Sunday ticket as a stand alone on YouTube. Just picked it up last week for $120 with the nurse discount.

Thanks, that’s what I keep coming back too, their library makes it seem like a no brainer but I thought maybe I was missing something else
One other factor
FJ : 11/7/2025 11:45 pm : link
Hulu has SNY so I can get Mets games. YouTube doesn't carry SNY.
And
FJ : 11/7/2025 11:47 pm : link
A $10 a month sports package gets me NFL Redzone which ill take only from September to January then cancel.

Yeah, I'd probably stick with DirecTV if I were you. Streaming services -- all of them -- kind of suck when it comes down to actually watching television. I don't care for the experience of app-like navigation and searching when I'm just trying to easily and quickly get to a goddam channel. The rewind and fast fowarding suck, particularly when the video just decides not to resume after you've reached the desired point and you have to exit the app, unplug your television, disconnect your router, and trip your circuit breaker to resume.
