I think we all understand how important this hire is. I looked up OL coaches that worked with Matt Nagy.
Interestingly enough, he has worked with Stoutland before in Philly. That's a pipedream, but could become reality at some point in the future.
One name that kept popping up was Juan Castillo. Some others were Harry Hiestand and Andy Heck.
Harry Hiestand retired in February of 2023 where he last coached at Notre Dame.
Andy Heck is the Chiefs OL coach but is contemplating retirement.
Juan Castillo is currently at Syracuse and was at Michigan in 2025. Interestingly enough here, Juan Castillo and Grant Newsome worked together last year. Remember, the Giants just hired Grant recently.
Then I looked into Harbaugh and Castillo. They worked together for 14 seasons, 10 in Philly and 4 in Baltimore.
From AI:
Juan Castillo served as a key assistant coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2013 to 2016, primarily overseeing the offensive line and run game. His tenure was characterized by mixed results, featuring elite pass protection but significant struggles in the running game.
Key results during his time in Baltimore include:
-2013 (Run Game Coordinator): The Ravens' rushing attack suffered its worst season in franchise history at the time, ranking 30th in the NFL with 83 yards per game and a last-place 3.1 yards per carry.
-2014–2016 (Offensive Line Coach): Following the 2013 struggles, Castillo was moved to offensive line coach. Under his guidance, the offensive line surrendered the fewest total sacks in the NFL (76) over his final three seasons, including just 19 in 2014.
-Player Development: Castillo coached Pro Bowl guard Marshal Yanda every season he was in Baltimore. He also oversaw the development of Kelechi Osemele, who became one of the league's top guards.
-Departure: He left the Ravens in January 2017 to join the Buffalo Bills.
Despite the poor rushing statistics in 2013, head coach John Harbaugh defended Castillo, noting that he was a "lightning rod" for broader issues with the team's offensive structure that year. |
Castillo has definitely had mixed results over his career but he has had succes in both the run game and pass game as an OL coach. He has also had failures at both. It's hard to fully know why the successes and failures happen to a team and it's coach. How much responsibility did the coach have in the successes and failures and how many were out of his control?
I don't have a dog in this fight but I have to imagine he's a consideration for the job with the history he has with both Harbaugh and Nagy. In the link below, you can see the connect to what Harbaugh said back then and what he said at his press conference.

Impressive work.
If Nagy deems him "ready", this is a plug and play for someone that already knows his system and has mentored under a OL coach with a good track record.

Good look.
Munchak has been retired for 5 years and lives in Colorado. His kids and their families live in Colorado and California. What are the odds he wants to come to the east coast?
A possible scanrio is that his swan song would be righting our OL ship and mentoring Newsome to eventualy take over for him.
