On Kayvon Thibodeaux…
Schoen: “Right now, Kayvon’s gonna be with us. He played well. He is going into his fifth year, and he's motivated, and you can't have enough pass rushers.”
We know he had a lot of interaction with John Harbaugh, but does anyone believe Harbaugh is here because of Schoen?
Harbaugh was coming here as long as (1) the Giants didn't scare him away, and (2) John Mara bent the knee on organizational change.
Let's not pretend Schoen's work in November and December got him here.
And Schoen saying his role has not changed is laughable. Just admit it dude.
Maybe the real power shift isn't from Schoen to Harbaugh but JM/CM/Nephew/Abrams to Harbaugh? In that context maybe not much has changed for him. It is just someone competent dictating the biggest moves now.

Schoen said Thibodeaux is motivated going into his fifth season and "you can't have enough pass rushers." He expects "big things" out of Thibodeaux next season with the rotation.

Schoen downplayed questions regarding Dexter Lawrence's status. Schoen said "the plan is for Dexter to be on the roster."
Schoen said Lawrence hasn't expressed a desire for a new contract (but those conversations could happen as soon as this week). Schoen said they haven't fielded any trade calls for Lawrence.
Dan Duggan
@DDuggan21
Quick takeaways from Joe Schoen's combine presser:
• Schoen again declined to address his contract situation. He is entering the final year of his initial contract.
"I'm still the general manager of the team and my role has not changed. I'm still tasked with leading the entire football operation."
Schoen said there's constant communication with Harbaugh and Dawn Aponte, the new senior VP of football operations and strategy. Schoen said video and analytics will report to Aponte, who will report to Harbaugh in the organization's new structure.
Schoen called Aponte a "tremendous resource." Schoen said they're going to hire a new video director soon.
• As for the roster, Schoen said the meetings with the agents of their free agents will take place this week. He said he'd like to keep some of them, and if they leave that opens up other holes.
• Schoen continues to "feel good" about the rehab progress of Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers. Schoen remains hopeful that they'll be ready for training camp. Skattebo told me before the Super Bowl that he could be cleared by the start of the offseason program, so Nabers' status is the bigger question mark.

Except the head coach of the New York Giants is now above him in the organizational chart, rather than the other way around.
JFC... does anyone really believe this shit?
I'm guessing part of the reason they're making this push to clarify/bolster JS' continued role in personnel and in the decision-making process is that if/when it comes time for calls with agents re FA signings and with other GMs re trades, when it's JS who does the reaching out, there's no "put me on with Harbaugh" or "I only want to speak to the boss" types of responses.
That the process in Baltimore and in NY were the same, and that both sides had agreed to it. Things hit a snag when JH insisted on it being in writing that he had final say. Mara could not understand why it was so important to him because they all agreed for how it should work. Unless you think JH was negotiating on bad faith and mischaracterized the process to get his way, this notion that JS is only a GM in title is just wrong.
Obviously the balance of power has shifted and there was no way JS was coming back without losing power. But the process remains the same and I don't believe the Giants expect to see major differences here in practice. At the end of the day, you need consensus and alignment, not people pulling the title card on every pick.

That is completely true, yes. He conceded scope of power (to Dawn) and organizational authority (to JH). If we're being honest, that was the only thing that made his retention even a little tolerable (to me). The man by any measure doesn't deserve the opportunity he's been given here. He better not screw it up.
