It's not being uptight. The dishonesty is just so cringeworthy at this point. He comes across petty and small.
If it weren't for Harbaugh, we'd be in store for 10 more years of shit.
I think you or over-reacting. I certainly wouldn't feel great with Schoen and Stefanski running the show. But, I'm fine with Schoen and Harbaugh if Harbaugh is good with extending Schoen.
Schoen saying that they have some UFA's they'd like to retain. Obviously this is true of any team, but I don't think he's going to talk about their UFAs in the terms he did if he's referring to guys like Victor Dimukeje.
"...as well as getting in front of some of our agents, of our current UFAs, that you know, that hopefully we'll be able to bring back, we'll start those conversations this week."
I have to think that they need to bring back some of the UFA depth linemen. I mentioned this yesterday, but they have almost their entire interior OL ticketed for UFA. We're not talking huge deals but guys they might feel good about giving an extension to like Stinnie and Schlottman for reasonable backup deals.
Gunner Olszewski is a guy I hope they bring back, so good on specials and showed he might have some flash as a slot.
You really have to look at Casey Kreiter as a priority because long snapper is so important and specialized.
What do they think of giving Micah McFadden another year on a prove-it deal? He had developed into a good linebacker.
But the big decisions are going to be how they handle Wan'Dale, Cor'Dale Flott and Jermaine Eluemunor.
Personally, I'm dubious on all three but I like Flott's chances of staying the best, I think Wan'Dale may get an offer but my strategy, if I was Harbaugh/Schoen and wanted to try and retain Wan'Dale (which I personally hope they do not) would be to come in at similar to Slayton's contract...3 years at $40M, $25M gtd. I don't think he will accept that before seeing what else is out there, and I would ask if he would give us a chance to match. Again, if I was running the show I'd thank him for his contributions and wish him well.
Eluemunor I strongly feel they let walk out of the building.

So you think Schoen claiming he is tasked with running the football operations is just him trying to save face, and Harbaugh will kick his ass in private for saying it?
Or is it more likely that Harbaugh is not flexing on anyone like Schoen and will only involve himself in decisions he disagrees with?
Harbaugh is the ultimate power in the organization now, but he is clearly not strutting around the organization putting people in their places. Joe Schoen does not impress me as a guy who would stand up there and blatantly lie about his position and responsibility in the organization.
I think Joe Schoen is still technically the GM of this operation. I think he is still performing many of the same duties he once did.
But people are NOT reporting to him, he is reporting to others. And he's trying to put up a face to convince others (and perhaps himself) that things haven't changed.
I don't think Harbaugh cares what he says in public. Harbaugh just cares Schoen does a good job.
But let's not pretend things haven't dramatically changed. Because they have. Schoen is very expendable, even if they re-sign him.
He asked the only 2 difficult questions 1- about Aponte and the specific responsibilities and 2- about Steve Tisch
Personally I thought the Tisch question was absolutely ridiculous. He knows very well that he's asking an employee about their boss, on a matter that is currently under investigation by the NFL (or so they say), and that the only answer he can really say is that he doesn't have a comment. Other Tisch-related questions he could've asked:
"Hey Joe, how do you feel working for a scumbag?"
"Joe, do you support human trafficking? Just wondering, idk, because you work for Steve Tisch."
"Joe, have you ever witnessed your boss sexually assault any college girls?"
The actual question was, "Joe, what is the position of the organization on whether or not Steve Tisch should remain an active owner of the team given the latest news and revelations?" If you're going to ask about Tisch, it's fair to direct that kind of question to John or Chris Mara.

The alternative is to just let them think this is going away.

I’ll be honest. I don’t know why this internal reporting structure detail is that important to you. We all know things run through Harbaugh now. Nobody is arguing it doesn’t, and that is a significant change. but it feels like you need some public acknowledgement amongst the fans that he is now a powerless eunuch.
If this mattered to JH and he wanted strict obeisance from his staff, he would tear Schoen a new one for telling a press pool he is still in charge of football operations and that his job hasn’t changed. I don’t think he cares how it is perceived. If he did, he would not allow that to stand.
I think many of us are just ready to move past the hand wringing and the behind the scenes drama. In 5 years this team has won or is on the cusp of winning a Superbowl, or JH is being shown the door and all of this was nothing but an interesting story, because the next guy will NOT have this same power.

You can continue to write about Tisch, while understanding that you're not getting anything from the employees of said owner. You can also direct questions about this to Goodell on the investigation status, he'll be in front of a microphone before too long. Your point is a good one, Eric, that at the very least it serves as a reminder that this will stay in the consciousness of the press, I just don't think it does anything asking Schoen about it anymore than it would if he asked the head of janitorial services at 1925 Giants Dr. It's a question with no possible good way to answer for anyone in the employ of that individual.
If he asked Dawn Aponte or Megan Rosburg about their thoughts on accepting this job as trailblazing women in the NFL given that one of the owners was in the Epstein files, I would respect that question but it's still one in which you can't really answer except in the most generic way or just no comment.
The fact that Tisch still hasn’t stepped down is infuriating to me.
Something must be done. I said it before, my patience is going to extend to about training camp. If they enter the regular season and nothing has changed, then there should be a fan revolt.
The fact that Tisch still hasn’t stepped down is infuriating to me.
100%. And this will keep coming up because if reporters stop asking about it, they will be criticized. “Are we all just forgetting the Epstein stuff now?”
Tisch is an ugly anchor on this team’s reputation now. He doesn’t seem to really care.
was interesting. Saying that it allows the evaluators to see how a guy does when he has money(comfortable) vs how he does when he does get money...is he the same hungry player or not. Also the constant changing of coaches and programs retards their development.
As far as the power/responsibility question and Joe saying he is still the GM - what would you expect him to say? We actually do not know exactly which responsibilities he retains and to what level. There is no doubt JH took over some areas and looks to be the more important executive of the team. It would certainly seem he has had some of his tail feathers clipped by the distribution of responsibilities and the hiring of Apointe, but it seems Joe is still in charge of contracts(hopefully Dawn does a better job advising then Abrams did).

The job of the reporter is to ask the questions that those in power dont want to answer
Did anyone ask JH about what JS said or, if JH spoke first, did anyone ask JH about JS's role?
I think that while everyone here professes to have nothing personal against JS, some really won't be satisfied unless either JS is fired right after the draft or is forced to go through some sort of humiliating session of public self-criticism in front of Pat Leonard and Dan Duggan right out of 1970s China. Unless of course the Giants make the second round of the playoffs this year, in which case the demands will resume in 2027.
I am personally sick of the subject of how big the change is. I prefer to focus on the present and future on their own terms and merits.
And as I've said on other threads, I would have been fine with firing Schoen right after the season. And I think Duggan does a terrific job covering the team.

It matters who is steering the ship. That's why it is important to know who has how much authority (Harbaugh, Schoen, Chris Mara, Tim McDonnell, Aponte, etc).
LOL, I have no interest in listening to Schoen, his input is

I'm saying Schoen is pretending nothing has changed, but it has. He doesn't even sound like the same guy anymore. He knows, but he won't admit it.
Somebody has to.
