Giants would trade the fifth overall pick for Jeffery Simmons and create some cap space by sending a couple of players to Tennessee. Not sure if a pick would be coming back this way.
Kinda what I was thinking. Added benefit is Giants free up about $5M in cap space, and moves the roster composition closer to what I think is Harbaugh’s vision.
And with Daboll on the staff, I can certainly see them having eyes for some of our contracted players, but the compensation that was alluded to here was far too imbalanced.
5th overall in this particular draft isn't a huge prize though
Probably not going to be any All-Pros coming out of this draft
Disagree with this. There are only so may drafted players to feed that 48 players that make the all pro teams. So there absolutely will be a handful of all pros in this class. Hall of famers? Maybe not.
You’re giving up a premium, cost controlled asset for 5 years for an expensive DT who is soon to be 30. Sure you can get a few good years out of him, but you could also keep the #5 pick and sign a DL like Wilkins (for example). Sure, Wilkins may not be Simmons, but you also keep the 5th overall pick to add to the roster.

Slayton for a 6th I'm fine with
Kayvon for a 3rd I'm ok with Simmons for #5 overall I would hate
Therefore, no go.
Agreed. Simmons is a very good player. But he's entering his 8th year, about to turn 29 and it's reasonable to assume he's just as close to the beginning of his declining years and as he it to his peak-peak.
I'd rather forgo the salary hit and take the chances with the 5th pick or selling it to trade down.
And I can't imagine Daboll wanting to add Slayton. He's had a front row seat to a many, many drops.
who posted it?Was it a legit poster?
2 unnamed Giants + #5 overall for Simmons and ???
Yes it was.
That or something like it.
That's a terrifying defensive front.
5th overall
Kayvon
Slayton
Titans Give:
Simmons
3rd Rounder
6th Rounder
Reasonable?

I look at that trade in 3 separate pieces.

I agree but I wonder if these worst-to-first turnarounds have gotten to people's heads in the NFL.
This was my first thought, that there was some truth to it and was told to take it down.
That's a trade you make if the first rounder you're giving up is somewhere between like 15 and 32

To me the 3rd and 5th need to become a 2nd and 4th for me to consider that.
