I imagine that he will still be the primary contact point for other GMs and agents regarding personnel moves, even if the ultimate up/down vote does not rest with him. He needs to have some degree of credibility as long as he is involved in the player personnel decision tree.

No GM or coach or exec is on an island in an organization. They all have their roles and all work together. I think the “final decision” stuff is a bit overrated. Usually they come to an agreement.
shitting on Schoen. He's here, he's made some good moves, made some bad moves and he's going get extended.
He has a much-reduced role, and that might be the sweet spot for him.
Bullshit. Schoen blows. Don't give me this oh, he's done some good things and some bad things crap. Whatever miniscule amount of good has been massively outweighed by the bad. That's why Harbaugh is here.
I'm so damned tired of people defending an utter failure. I'm sick of mediocrity excused and incompetence glossed over.
Schoen deserves to be scorned and mocked. He's earned every insult hurled at him.

Dart + Carter + Burns + Skat in one offseason isn't exactly scornable and mockable.

Why? He was a terrible GM, and any other team would have thrown him off the top of the stadium. It's mind boggling that we almost lost Harbaugh because the Maras couldn't contemplate getting rid of their pet. It's an embarrassment that they have to run him out there so everyone can play "let's pretend" that he's the GM. He'll get extended only because it's good to be a friend of the family.
So, thanks for the suggestion, but I Schoen deserves all the shit that comes firing his way.

Is it better than Dexter, Thomas, Jones, Barkley, Slayton as a 5th round pick? Because if not maybe Gettleman should be brought back.

13-38 over the last three seasons is exactly scornable, mockable and fireable (unless you are friends with one of the owners).
Incredibly, Andy Robustelli had a better winning percentage in the three years leading up to Rozelle's intervention than Schoen did. Yet, posters are on here bleeding for this dunce.

Dart is a work-in-progress whose flaws need serious correcting, especially now that the league has tape on him. Carter? Another ER who can't set an E. I'm looking forward to seeing him getting run at and over again and again. Burns, I'll give you. Skatt? Decent complimentary piece, but hardly a bell cow.
So, Schoen didn't completely screw up the 2025 draft, coupled with one good FA signing. Too bad his first three years here were laughably bad.
